4 Things to Avoid After a Perm

4 Things to Avoid After a Perm

Love your perm but struggling to keep those curls looking their best?

Getting gorgeous, bouncy curls is one thing, keeping them looking their best is another.

While the right products and styling routine can make all the difference, there are also a few everyday habits that could be working against your curls. From product overload to getting a little too hands-on, here are four things to stop doing if you want to get the most out of your perm.

1. Stop using too much product

Using too much product can weigh your hair down, leaving your curls feeling heavy and looking less bouncy. Start with a small amount and work it through your hair, adding more only if you need it.

You can always add product, but you can't take it away unless you re-wash and start from scratch.

2. Stop washing with hot water

Whilst you may love a hot shower from time to time, the hot water can actually strip your hair of its natural oils. This can leave your hair frizzy and unsettled. Our recommendation would be to use lukewarm water instead and finish with cool water to keep those curls defined.

3. Stop touching your hair

When your curls look that good, it can be hard to keep your hands off.

But constantly touching, scrunching and rearranging your hair can encourage frizz and disturb curl pattern. Natural oils on your hands can also transfer onto your hair, making it feel heavier over time.

4. Stop comparing your curls

And most importantly...stop comparing your curls!

It's easy to be envious of someone else's curls. However, a perm will look different on everyone, depending on your hair type. The key is to give your curls time, find a routine that works for you and, most importantly, embrace what makes your hair unique.

So, give your curls a little less fuss and a little more love. Avoid the common mistakes, find a routine that works for your hair and remember, there’s no such thing as a “perfect” curl. Your perm is unique, so embrace it!
